I became an Appointed Governor representing Young People in 2014.
I'm Head of Disability at Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT). We run a full and varied range of projects at CACT. My strand of work focuses on working with young people with physical challenges like Down's Syndrome and with mental health problems across the Kent and Medway area and at Oxleas. It's a large geographical area so there are always plenty of social, cultural and sporting projects on the go across the borough.
We've engaged with hundreds of young people and adults over the years in a wide variety of mental-health focused initiatives, aiding people in the recovery process through our work with early intervention services.
Before I joined CACT I was a tennis coach and have been involved in sport all my life so I know what a big impact it can have on the achievement of individual goals - especially when you have challenges to overcome.
Last year we were approached to see if we would become a partnership governor at Oxleas to offer a fresh perspective on young people.
I think it's worthwhile to collaborate with the trust on a topic that's a central part of our work at CACT. We've not been involved for long but we see our role as encouraging the engagement of younger people, using their views to inform service provision and improve access.
I think it will take a little while for us to understand the role and responsibilities fully, though we're certainly keen to share the expertise we have and hope it will be a positive experience all round.
I have three boys at home and with such a busy professional life, I really look forward to spending my down time with the family - preferably sharing some sporting fun!
