Service User/Carer Governor (Bromley Adult)

I'm a Service User/Carer Governor representing service user and carer members who use our Adult services (Adult Mental Health and Older Adults Mental Health) in the Bromley borough.  I've been a Governor since 2013.

Service User/Carer Governor (Bromley Adult): Katherine Copley

About me

I've always worked in education and I'm currently a data and funding manager at Bromley College. I work as part of the college's management information team, helping to manage government contracts and administer funding arrangements so we're always compliant and audit-ready.

Why I became a Governor

I have bipolar and have been a patient of Oxleas all my adult life. I wanted to get more involved because I believe in the work of the Foundation Trust and felt that I could use my background and experience to make a difference.

I'm excited that Oxleas is moving forward in such a positive way - integrating mental health and physical health services to deliver an even more joined-up service to the community. My experiences as a service user have not always been overwhelmingly positive but I believe that most staff are doing their absolute best in the face of increasing constraints from the outside.

I've been involved in staff awards and have also visited different units to feedback observations to the directors of different services. I've enjoyed engaging with people in the course of my visits and feel as if I'm part of something important. I'd urge others to become governors and contribute their experience to this crucial service.

My interests and hobbies

I'm very involved in my local church community and run the Brownies group there - which is quite time consuming!
