Sunflower competition nears exciting finale

Team F13 beach hut

Our sunflower competition is approaching its thrilling climax - with the deadline for entries 23 September. If you have planted sunflowers please ensure you inform us of their height by this date.

This epic struggle has seen highs and lows – such as the giant at The Older Persons Service (TOPS) at Goldie Leigh claimed at a massive 16 feet until cruel nature brought it crashing down to earth – where in its sad horizontal position it is now closer to one foot tall!

And while the entry from Team F13 (Lisa Moylan and Yvette Knight) does not exactly soar to dizzying heights at a modest 5 feet 4 inches, it is certainly up there among the funkiest, growing as it appears outside a blue and white striped beach hut complete with fish net and lobster (pictured left).

Other entries worthy of note are:

Park Crescent - 7 feet

Sandra Chaplin - 7 feet 3 inches

Pam Black - 9 feet

Joyden’s Clinic - 10 feet

Somerset Villa - 10 feet 4 inches

Team DMK - 11 feet

So prime your tape measures and dust off your ladders and make sure you email photographs and vital statistics of your sunflowers to sunflowers@oxleas.nhs.uk by 23 September.

More entries are pictured on the competition homepage.

Prizes for the winning entries will be presented at our Annual Members’ Meeting on 30 September at the Indigo2 at the 02 Arena in Greenwich.
