The Maroons from Southwark were victorious in an Oxleas organised five a side football tournament this week at Charlton Athletic's Sparrows Lane training ground. They beat Mind United from Kingston 1-0 in the final.

Ten teams affiliated to mental health services and voluntary sector organisations took part in the tournament. As well as from Oxleas services there were teams from Kingston, Croydon, Lambeth, Brixton and Southwark.

The Oxleas teams that took part were the Bracton Lions (from the Bracton Centre), Bromley R&Bs (Bromley Complex Needs Service), Banbury House and Crayside United (Crayford Day Centre).

Out of the Oxleas teams Crayside United went furthest, doing better than England in the recent World Cup, losing on penalties to Mind United in the semi-finals. Ahmed Agha, Crayside's Manager said "This has been an excellent tournament and a great day out. The lads are very proud of their performance if a little disappointed to go out on penalties."

Organiser Andy Smith said "Everybody seemed to enjoy today and I was really impressed with the quality of football on display. We hope that a south London mental health league can be established so these teams can play each other regularly."
