A mum and daughter team from Oxleas raised around £500 for charity at the all female, Race for Life, five kilometres fun run on sweltering Blackheath at the weekend.

Mum, Jenny Hellman, Administration Manager and PA to the Service Manager, who is based at the Upton Centre in Bexleyheath and daughter Christina, 19, a temporary Communications Assistant with the communications team at Pinewood House, decided to power walk the course because of a slight hip injury to Jenny. However they still managed to complete the grueling course in a creditable 40 minutes.

Many thousands of runners and spectators turned out on a boiling hot day, with temperatures reaching 26 degrees Celsius, to enjoy the event which raised cash for Cancer Research UK.

Christina, from Dartford, told One Oxleas: “We’ve taken part in this event for three years in a row now. We first started because we lost a family friend to cancer. We hope to carry on taking part for many years to come because it’s great fun and a really worthy cause.”

It's not too late to sponsor Jenny and Christina.
