Approximately 110 support staff, including healthcare assistants (HCAs), nursery nurses, social workers and therapy assistants attended the second annual Oxleas Support Workers Conference at Charlton Athletic Football Club on Friday 18 November 2011.
The theme for the conference was ‘aspiring to the highest levels of excellence’, which keynote speaker and Regional Director for London at the Royal College of Nursing, Bernell Bussue, touched on in his presentation about the ‘national agenda’ and HCA roles and responsibilities.
The highlight of the conference for most, was Oxleas' first ever Health Support Worker Awards. These were given in the categories of: nursing excellence, patient and carer experience and safety.
The nursing excellence awards were made for individuals who demonstrated exceptional performance in improving or consistently providing high quality services. The recipients were:

The patient and carer experience awards recognised those who have listened to and responded to the views of people who use, or care for those who use, our services. The recipients were:

The safety awards were awarded to individuals who have made improvements to the safety of colleagues, service users and carers. The recipients were:
