Horizon House fun runners put best feet forward

Six members of Horizon House put their best feet forward recently when they took part in a five kilometre fun run at Norman Park, Bromley, in a bid to raise cash to buy some much needed garden furniture for the centre.

Participants raised more than £250 for Horizon House in Langdon Road, Bromley - a membership-based organisation that supports people in their recovery from mental-illness, inclusion in the community and return to employment.

Membership offers mutual support from others with similar experiences, assistance in pursuing career and other goals, and coordination of employment support, benefits, and mental health services.

The membership and the small staff work together to provide a range of services to members, including: help in getting back to work and pursuing a career; advocacy in accessing benefits and services; opening up opportunities in education and leisure; contacting members in need of support and providing a welcoming community of people with some shared experiences.

Fiona Mulryan, Rehabilitation Specialist and one of two staff members that also took part in the event said “We took a vote at an Horizon House Policy meeting whereby the members voted to spend the money on garden furniture as ours is rubbish.”
