Sidcup Baby Café Local launched

On Thursday 2 February, The Sidcup Baby Café Local, was officially launched.

Previously run as Sidcup Baby Café, this breastfeeding support service is funded by Sidcup and North Cray Sure Start Children's Centres and co-facilitated and fully supported by local Oxleas Health Visitor Teams.

The group provides a free drop-in service for both antenatal and postnatal families. It is a friendly and informal group where families can meet other breastfeeding families, get support with any difficulties they are facing or get advice for any questions they have.

Support is available throughout the whole breastfeeding period from pre-birth to the first few weeks continuing for as long as the family choose to breastfeed their child for. The group is run by a team of workers including health visitors, a local lactation consultant, feeding advisor, feeding support advisors, National Childbirth Trust breastfeeding counsellors and peer supporters.

It is widely recognised that there are huge health benefits for both babies who are breastfed as well as for mothers but at Sidcup Baby Café Local the team understand that breastfeeding does not always come easy to some and can be a challenge to many. The team strongly believe that with the right support any mother who wants to breastfeed can do so and for as longs as they would like to.

At the launch mums and a dad enjoyed chatting together as well as with the support team, which is one if the nicest aspects of the group, families supporting one another, sharing experiences and ideas. The group want to raise local awareness of this FREE support they are offering to all Bexley residents.

The Sidcup Baby Café Local is at North Cray Children's Centre and meets on Thursday mornings between 10am and noon. For more information call 020 8308 3881.
