Peter’s splendid charity effort

News: Peter’s splendid charity effort

Veteran Oxleas volunteer, Peter James, has completed his 11th 125-mile sponsored walk for the Sunrise Greenwich group of Rethink.

Rethink tries to help people who are suffering from mental illness and supports more than 60,000 people in the UK.

Peter said: "It was very hard and my feet were a mess at the end. It was a case of getting in the routine of waking at 2.15am, having breakfast, getting on the coach to the start for 4am, walking for 12-13 hours a day and not stopping for more than 15 minutes during the four day walk. 40,630 people started and 38,144 finished. It took three weeks for my feet to heal.

Peter has been a volunteer with Greenwich Older Adults Community Mental Health Team, based at Memorial Hospital, Shooters Hill, for a decade. He was one of 40,630 people taking part in the annual arduous charity walk in the Netherlands last month - 38,144 finished.
