Members enjoy fun afternoon at Charlton House

We held a free event for all Oxleas members at Charlton House on Wednesday afternoon. It aimed to show people how to stay healthy and help keep friends and family healthy too.

Called ‘Living life to the full – ageing healthily’ there were opportunities to talk to health specialists about any concerns or general questions as well as being able to have a free health check.

More than 90 people turned up and were able to get information from 40 organisations based in Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich boroughs. These included: Age UK; Alzheimer’s Society; Cancer awareness and outreach, Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice; Greenwich Community College; Kick the Habit; Let’s talk Diabetes; Samaritans from Bexley and Dartford; Stroke Association and many more.

There was also a stall about the future of Queen Mary’s Hospital and even some fun entertainment by ‘PJ the Magical Clown’ who astonished everyone with his magic tricks and impressed the crowd with his balloon animals.

As well as being able to browse the stalls and have a chat to the health professionals, guests also had the opportunity to take part in two workshops throughout the afternoon as well as chair based exercise sessions.
