Erith Baby Group was presented with a Unicef UK Certificate of Commitment at the group's official launch on 25 June.

The weekly drop-in sessions at Erith Health Centre in Pier Road are a venture between our health visiting service in Bexley and West Street Children's Centre. They focus on a programme of fun, baby-centred activities and infant feeding support in a relaxed and informal setting. Sessions take place on Thursdays at 10am.

Stephen Whitmore, Director of Children and Young People's Services, presented the Unicef certificate to key workers at the children's centre. He said: "It is really important to improve infant feeding support and this group offers that help and advice alongside some fantastic planned activities.

Hazel Jones, our Infant Feeding Advisor at the group, said: "It is lovely to be working with West Street Children's Centre and to see parents and babies having fun, getting to know other families and accessing reliable information about feeding their babies."

Janice Ward-Wilson, team leader for Bexley Children's Centres, said: "This professional and parent partnership is vital - working together we are stronger."

Unicef's Baby Friendly Initiative is a global programme in which the charity works with health professionals to ensure mothers and babies receive high-quality support. The Certificate of Commitment recognises that a health care facility is dedicated to implementing recognised best practice standards.
