Juliet Blenman is our Nurse of the Year

Juliet Blenman was today named Nurse of the Year 2015 in front of more than 200 colleagues at our Annual Nursing Conference.

Juliet, was recognised for her outstanding work across Oxleas and for her passion to share her expertise with colleagues and with patients to ensure the very best care is given.

She has been responsible for developing and extending the Pressure Ulcer Prevention Scheme in Adult Community Services and has worked tirelessly with care homes to promote this scheme and help staff understand how to prevent injuries which would need nursing involvement.

Jane Wells, Director of Nursing, said: "Juliet has demonstrated a special passion for reducing harm, especially for ulcer prevention, and she has shared her skills across all our clinical areas making a real difference."

Juliet was presented with her £500 prize at the Annual Nursing Conference, held at Charlton Football Club, today (19 June 2015).

Juliet said: “This means so much to me I am overwhelmed. Thank you to everyone in the integrated wound care team who have supported me.”

In addition to the Nurse of the Year presentation, awards were also presented for nursing excellence, patient and carer experience and safety. There was also an award for student nurse mentor and students clinical placement, sponsored by the University of Greenwich.

Category winners

Nursing Excellence

Patient and Carer Experience

Winner: Gordon McKay, Community Mental Health Nurse, Adult Mental Health Services.

Runner up: Liese Dallarda, Community Mental Health Nurse, Adult Mental Health Services.

Safety

Winner: Lynn Gorring, Specialist Substance Misuse Nurse, Children and Young People's Services.

Runner up: Memory Service Team, Older Adults Mental Health Services.

Student Nurse Mentor

Winner: Esther Afolake, Staff Nurse, Adult Mental Health Services.

Clinical Placement

Winner: Bexley CAMHS Adolescent Team, Children and Young People's Services

Ward Assurance

Winner: Bluebell House
