News: National recognition for our health visiting services in Bexley

Our health visiting service in Bexley is celebrating after gaining further national recognition from a children's charity for the 'outstanding' care it delivers.

Bexley Health Visiting Service has recently achieved Stage 2 UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation with an outstanding result following an assessment which praised staff on their knowledge, skills and client-centred care.

It started working towards the Baby Friendly accreditation in July 2014. Greenwich Health Visiting Service was awarded full UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation in 2012 with successful reassessment in November 2015.

Susan Wallis, one of the UNICEF assessors, said: "Bexley Health Visiting Service is commended for the commitment shown to staff education which is evident in the knowledge they demonstrate. We were particularly impressed by their communications skills and appropriate use of resources as well as their warmth, compassion and understanding."

Victoria Morton, mother to Peyton, has nothing but praise for the service. She said: "I am eternally grateful to staff because without them my baby would be fully formula fed, which is not what I wished."

Hazel Jones, our Infant Feeding Advisor and project lead, said: "It's a pleasure to work with such committed and talented staff. The warm feedback and thanks from mums reflects this fantastic result."

UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative is an evidence-based programme to support women to initiate and continue breastfeeding, and to promote practices to maximise very early child development.
