We have joined forces with partners from across Greenwich for a major celebration in General Gordon Square in Woolwich on Saturday 8 October to mark World Mental Health Day.

This year’s theme is Dignity in Mental Health – psychological and mental health first aid for all, and information will be provided about this vital practice which teaches first aid to help anyone in mental distress.

The event, from 10am to 2pm, will feature performances from Lady Marga MC, Dynamix, MCDC, and Greenwich Mind Choir. You can also enjoy line dancing and Tai Chi with Greenwich Get Active.

In addition, there will be workshops on subjects such as breaking down barriers to employment and how to live with conditions such as OCD and depression, and taster sessions in woodwork and jewellery making.

Iain Dimond, director of Adult Mental Health and Learning Disability Services, said: “World Mental Health Day is our opportunity for a wider conversation within society regarding mental health. This year’s events are a demonstration of Oxleas working together with other organisations to raise awareness about the importance of good mental health and how mental health first aid can facilitate that.”

Groups who have come together to mark the day include Greenwich Council, Greenwich Mind, Greenwich Time to Talk, Bridge Mental Health and Recovery College Greenwich.
