New Director of Therapies appointed

News: Neil Springham

Neil Springham, currently Trustwide Head of Arts Therapists and Lead for Psychological Therapies in Bromley, has been appointed as our new Director of Therapies. He will replace Dr Michael Witney who retires from Oxleas at the end of November.

Neil was appointed following a recruitment process in partnership with Diversity by Design which attracted a wide range of applicants. He was interviewed by a panel including a service user representative and staff governor as well as a staff panel.

Chief Executive Matthew Trainer welcomed his appointment:  "We had a strong field, including some excellent internal candidates who made me proud to be part of Oxleas,” he said. “Neil stood out for the vision he set out for professional leadership for therapies, allied health professionals and social work, and for his commitment to genuine co-production building on his work with ResearchNet. He will bring a new voice to the Board and we are excited about working with him."

Neil has worked in adult mental health for 35 years and joined Oxleas as head of art therapy services in 2007.  He has been chair of the British Association of Art Therapists and formed ResearchNet in 2010 with Japleen Kaur. He is delighted to be taking up the role: “I am very proud to be a part of the therapies professions at Oxleas and am looking forward to promoting our shared ethos of working with service users to develop their own resources for health and wellbeing,” he said. “I see this and the active listening to patient experience as central to achieving effectiveness of all our services.”
