You are not meant to be happy. So stop trying!

News: Dr Euba

That's what the evidence in Dr Rafa Euba's latest book tells us. Through a series of conversations with his patients - some funny, others poignant - Rafa reflects on the pointless pursuit of happiness as a goal. A consultant psychiatrist, Rafa has worked at Oxleas for over 20 years. We caught up with him on his last day at Oxleas before he retired to talk to him about his new book.

The book explains how the ten trillion nerve connections in our brains do a lot of things, but they don't know how to make us happy, and in fact, our DNA doesn't want to make us happy. Nature designed humans to survive and reproduce - that's it, and to do that, we needed anxiety, to make sure we were always on our guard for potential threats to our survival.

However, we no longer face the same level of threat to our survival, yet we still possess our instinct for anxiety. But it's not all seemingly 'bad news', through his book, Rafa offers alternative ways to perceive the situation and help us understand why things are the way they are!

His book, 'You Are Not Meant To Be Happy. So stop Trying!' is available to buy on Amazon.
