New appointments to Oxleas Board of Directors

News: Dr Ify Okocha

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to announce three new appointments to our Board of Directors.

At today’s (Thursday 9 December) Council of Governors’ meeting, the appointment of Dr Ify Okocha to the role of Chief Executive was approved. Ify has been our interim Chief Executive for six months and has worked at Oxleas for more than 20 years. A consultant psychiatrist, he has a wealth of clinical experience and was previously our Medical Director.

“I am really excited to be taking up this role to serve Oxleas,” he said. “I want to make a real difference to our service users and to help our staff flourish. This is a great opportunity to work with partners to improve the wellbeing of people living in south east London.”

The Council of Governors also appointed two new Non-Executive Directors to the Board. We are delighted to welcome Sophy Proctor and Jim Shaikh. Both are members of our local communities and bring a wide range of skills and experience to the organisation.

Sophy, who is Senior Head of Strategic Funding for the National Lottery Community Fund, said: “As a resident and someone who has used Oxleas services, I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to draw upon my personal and professional experience to support Oxleas in every way I can.”

While engineering entrepreneur Jim, currently senior commercialisation manager at Queen Mary, University of London, said: “I’m really excited to be given the opportunity to work with the Oxleas Board and staff and promote the interests of patients and users of the trust’s services.  As a user of these services, I understand completely the critical importance of the trust to the wellbeing of local families - often in times of crisis.  We are in challenging times for the NHS and I am looking forward to supporting the trust staff to meet these challenges whilst continuing the progress from Good to Outstanding.”

Sophy and Jim will take up their roles on 1 January 2022 when Steve James and Amlan Basu finish their appointments with the trust.

Oxleas Chair Andy Trotter is looking forward to working with the new members of the board. “I am very pleased to welcome these new colleagues and feel that they make our Board of Directors even stronger with great connections to our local communities. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Steve and Amlan for their significant contribution to the work of the trust. We will miss them both.”
