Celebrating our armed forces and helping our Veterans

This week is national Armed Forces Week. It is a time to celebrate our armed forces and culminates in Armed Forces Day, which always falls on the last Saturday in June.

At Oxleas, we have committed to provide timely access to healthcare for ex-service personnel and their families and the trust is a recognised employer of UK ex-Military Veterans, Reservists, their families and carers.

Our Trust Veteran Steering Group has been active since 2017 and we have two Veteran Champions – Lorraine Jones, Specialist Psychological Therapist with our IAPT Greenwich service and Rachel Clare Evans, Director for Strategy and People.

Through our work, we have been awarded the Silver Award in the Armed Forces Covenant and are now working towards gold standard employer recognition. To achieve this, we will have to evidence positive outcomes for veterans accessing our mental health services.

Greenwich Time To Talk, our psychological therapies service, provides talking therapies to people experiencing common mental health difficulties. Our therapists have been trained in working with veterans and their families to ensure needs are understood and met, and that access to services is timely, adhering to the Armed Forces Covenant.

Supporting Veterans

Lorraine Jones said: "Armed Forces Week is the perfect time for us to highlight the work we do to support Veterans. The trust is proud to be progressing towards accreditation in The Veteran Covenant Health Care Alliance (VCHA) and is committed to supporting our ex-military and military community with access to timely healthcare."
