Offender healthcare teams working within Greenwich’s prisons (HMPs Belmarsh, Thameside and YOI Isis) were delighted to be nominated for two categories at the recent Nursing Times Awards 2022 alongside colleagues from Mindworks.

The teams were recognised for the outstanding work they have done with the independent nursing consultants from the Mindworks team on the project to implement a range of training to both nurses and prison staff across the cluster.

The training, which aims to reduce deaths in custody, has been rolled out successfully across the three prisons with high attendance rates among offenders.

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is proud to be the country's leading NHS provider of healthcare within secure environments in Kent, London and across the south west of England.

Lawrence Mack, Director for Forensic and Offender Healthcare Services, said: “We were all delighted for our work to have been recognised in this way.

“This initiative gives those working with offenders essential knowledge about the impact prison can have on mental health, the risk factors that increase the likelihood of suicide, self-harm and violence and how people can help themselves within the confines of their environment.

“Huge congratulations to the team.”
