What to expect when you apply for a job at Oxleas

Many of our posts (particularly nursing) use a competency based recruitment and selection process. This means that if you apply and are shortlisted we will ask you to take a series of tests relevant to the role to which you are applying. We do this to ensure that we get the best possible staff who believe in our values to deliver high quality patient care.

If you are successful at the testing stage we will invite you back for further interview. Nursing recruitment campaigns often have open days which provide excellent opportunities for applicants to come and visit and find out about what it is like to work for Oxleas and meet other nurses working in the area.

If you are successful at interview we will give you a conditional offer of employment. We will then carry out pre-employment checks. Once pre-employment checks are completed, and if the results are satisfactory, you will be given an unconditional offer of employment. You may then resign from your existing employment and agree a start date with your new manager. You will probably start on the first Monday of the month and attend a corporate trust induction followed by some of your mandatory training.

The range of pre-employment checks we carry out will be explained to you. Most posts with access to patients will require you to undergo a criminal record check with the Disclosure and Barring Service. If you have a criminal record it may not exclude you from employment with us but it is important that you tell us about it.

Becoming a member of our temporary staffing Bank

We have a number of temporary positions for all disciplines, which help us to manage unexpected shortfalls in staff and fill additional staffing requirements that cannot be covered by the existing workforce.  

Our Temporary Resourcing Team coordinates a ‘Bank’ of multidisciplined staff who work on a flexible, ad-hoc basis across all of our services and locations in the Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich areas.

As a member of our Bank you will benefit from choosing your own flexible working pattern, gain experience in working in a number of our services and teams, and become part of an outstanding healthcare organisation which places excellent patient care at the heart of what we do and who we are.

We are currently recruiting members of the following professions to our Bank:

  • Healthcare assistants to work in community health and mental health services, including inpatient units
  • Staff nurses to work in community health and mental health services, including inpatient units
  • Administrative and clerical staff.
