Fred had a stroke in January 2014.
"I play a lot of bowls and settled down to watch bowls on television. I dozed off and when I woke up, I stood up and fell. At first I just thought I'd got up too quickly, but I got up again and fell over again," says Fred.
"I realised there was something wrong. I couldn't feel my arm and I couldn't talk properly. I'd had a stroke and was in hospital for 5 days."
One of our Highly Specialist Community Physiotherapists helped plan Fred's recovery at home with the help of a Therapy Assistant Practitioner.
"Ricardo and Hazel were brilliant. Hazel would get on the floor and do exercises with me. My wife and I did a lot of walking to help get fit and now I can even drive again - and of course play bowls."
"Without the effort of Oxleas staff, I'm sure I would not have been able to get back to this level of fitness so quickly."
