Michael started his journey with Oxleas in 2011, when he was admitted to the Bracton Centre after nine weeks in Belmarsh prison. Determination and help from our occupational therapists, Patsy and Jill, helped Michael to see light at the end of the tunnel.
"My family and the staff at the Bracton Centre played a huge part in my recovery. I was encouraged to learn about and understand my mental health condition, as well as identifying my triggers. I enjoyed recovery activities like IT, cooking and working at the café, Henri's.
"I was chair of the Bracton's user forum for a year, helping and listening to other patients' concerns and needs.
"Slowly I felt things turning around, I could see light at the end of the tunnel."
Discharged from the Bracton Centre in August 2014, Michael leads a content life back in the community with his family.
