Would you like to become our next public or service user/carer governor?

Public governor event 2

Have you considered being a public or service user/carer Governor?

Being a public or service user/carer governor is a great opportunity and a unique way to see how we operate and decisions are made. As a Foundation Trust we're accountable to our local communities through our membership and our Council of Governors (Governors are elected members).

Find out how to apply and more information on how to become a governor. Nominations for our governor elections open today (Friday 10 May).

You need to be a member of Oxleas in either our service user/carer or public constituencies to be eligible to stand as a governor.

This year, we have vacancies in the following constituencies:

Service User/Carer Constituencies

  • Bexley Adult x 1

  • Bromley Adult x 2 (1 x 2 year term)

  • Greenwich Adult x 1

  • Carers x 1

  • Children x 2

  • Learning Disabilities x 1

Public Constituencies

  • Bexley x 2

  • Bromley x 2

  • Greenwich x 1

All are for three year terms of office unless stated otherwise.

As a foundation trust, we're accountable to our local communities through our membership. We have 37 governors on our Council of Governors, made up of service users/carers, public, staff, local authority and partner organisations.

The statutory duties of our governors are:

  • to hold the trust's non-executive directors (NEDS) individually and collectively to account for the performance of the Board of Directors

  • to represent the interest of the members of the trust as a whole and the interests of the public.

Throughout the year, we arrange a series of governor visits to our services and governors are also invited to other activities to share their views.

You can support the trust through attending community events with local people and recruit new members. Through your own community connections, you can help us link to opportunities to engage with local people.

The deadline for nominations is 10 June 2024.
