Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is a talking-based therapy that can help you to understand and change unhelpful thinking patterns, behaviours and emotions. CBT can't take away your problems but it aims to help you deal with them in a more positive way. 

Our CBT sessions and can be done via: 

  • Telephone 
  • Face-to-face sessions
  • Workbooks
  • Psycho-education groups, teaching the participants about their particular difficulties, such as depression and reducing the chances of symptoms recurring.

Therapy includes agreeing goals for treatment and experimenting with new techniques between sessions. Individual CBT sessions are usually weekly and last an hour (up to six sessions). The aim is to teach you skills you can then apply every day to help you manage your problems and stop them having a negative impact on your life.

CBT is an evidenced based talking therapy that can be used for a range of mental health difficulties.  At Greenwich Time to Talk, CBT is offered to people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, low self esteem and in some cases people who have experienced trauma.

Low Intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

Guided 'self-help' (also known as Low Intensity CBT) is an effective way of helping people with mild to moderate psychological difficulties, such as depression or anxiety.

Guided self-help involves a range of interventions tailored to individual needs. The practitioner acts as a coach to help support, motivate and encourage people to work towards their goals.

Our programmes are a good starting point for people who want to address their difficulties and for people who have recently developed difficulties with anxiety or depression. We can provide flexibility for people who have busy lives or who find it difficult to attend face-to-face appointments. It means that you can also work on your difficulties in your own time and at your own pace.

Group CBT

Our CBT groups sessions offer the opportunity to have therapy with the additional support of others who are experiencing similar difficulties.

This can help you overcome thoughts and feelings that you’re the only person struggling. The groups can also bring a wealth of knowledge and interventions from our therapist.

Groups run for eight to ten weeks with sessions lasting 90 minutes to two hours.
