Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Team Greenwich

The Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Team provide specialist care to Greenwich residents living with COPD. Patients are given the tools to self manage their condition and stay in the best health possible with a combination of clinic appointments and visits in their own home when necessary.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation, a seven week course of twice weekly education and exercise, is also available for patients. Patients who feel unwell can call the service for assessment, treatment and advice, which allows patients in a period of ‘exacerbation’ to remain at home, monitored by the COPD team, avoiding an unnecessary hospital admission.

The team also manages the oxygen prescription service for patients registered with a GP.

Oxleas Patient Experience survey

The Oxleas Patient Experience survey gives you the opportunity to feedback on the care and treatment you have received. We also encourage your friends, family and carers to also provide feedback. Hearing your views gives us a better understanding of the needs of our patients, families and carers which helps us to make sure that we are providing a good standard of care.

The short survey only takes a few minutes to complete and you can provide a written comment explaining what you think is working well and what is not. The Patient Experience team will collect the results of the surveys and these are shared with the relevant departments and management teams. This helps us to shape our services to continually improve the quality of the care and treatment we provide.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

My partner has severe copd we live near Glasgow is there anywhere near there we could attend for these courses.

Dear Evelyn

Apologies for the delay in responding to you.

You may wish to try Glasgow City HSCP on 0141 800 0790 as they will be able to give you more advice.

Best wishes

I was told about this by a Doctor at the QE where I received excellent care. I had never heard of it. How long has it been in existence? Where is it based? Thank you.

Dear Julia

The COPD team visits patients in their own homes and they have clinics across Greenwich. The service is available to patients who have a diagnosis of COPD and have recently been unwell with regard to their COPD. The service accepts referrals form GPs and all healthcare professionals, including the staff at the hospital.

If you would like to be seen by the team, please contact your GP who will be able to access the service and refer you.

We hope you are feeling better and thank you for your comment.

Kind regards

Service Manager for Adult Community Services (Greenwich)

What a remarkable service, couldn't get anywhere with QE or GP, but as soon as I was referred to you, I have had the correct medication and inhalers and wonderful care. I telephoned yesterday to say I wasn't well and a case worker came to visit within hours. He telephoned the Consultant for advice on medication and then spoke direct to my GP for medication to be delivered. I am so grateful to you all. The GRACE day was very informative and pleasant. I feel safe now. Thank you all.

Dear Sylvie

Thank you very much for your kind words about our COPD Team. I know they really appreciate the feedback. I was so pleased to read about an example of the local NHS system working together to provide high quality patient care, and that our team were leading this.

Thank you again

Just finished the pulmonary rehab course. I can't praise this service highly enough - informative, educational, very helpful and FUN. The staff are friendly and certainly know their stuff! Thank you Helen & co, hope Oxleas know what an asset they have in you.

Dear Anne

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment.

Helen and her team are delighted that you found the course so helpful.

Best regards
