BSH (Bexley Contraception and Sexual Health) Bexley

In the clinic, our staff provide a confidential contraception and sexual health advice service to people under 25. Appointments are not required.

Free condoms, lubricant and dental dams are available.

The clinic provides a full range of sexual health checks and contraception.

We are still following government advice to minimise the risk of coronavirus spreading to you and to staff, which means that the Bexley Sexual Health walk-in clinic is currently only by appointment on Wednesdays and Fridays. There is no walk-in service.

Please call 020 8301 8920 option 1 Mon-Fri 09:30-16:30 to talk to a nurse. You will then either be advised what to do, or be able to book an appointment.  If you are running low on your contraceptive pill we may be able to prescribe and post them to you.

Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes before your appointment. Please go to the back entrance car-park where you will see a white marquee with a telephone number to call. Please do not bring other people with you.

We are not currently offering STI screening if you have no symptoms – please go online and order a home-screening kit.

Referrals from a GP are required for community gynaecology services, psychosexual counselling and complex contraception, but please note these services are delivered at the Market Street Clinic in Woolwich.

We are closed on bank holidays.

When we are closed, emergency contraception is available from:

  • Your nearest Chemist (under 21s)

Alternatively, you can go to A&E at Queen Elizabeth Hospital but you may have a long wait as you will need to see a doctor (all ages).

Please note that clinics may have to stop accepting clients if demand is high.

Please note that we are not responsible for incorrect information about clinics and opening times provided by third party websites.

Oxleas Patient Experience survey

The Oxleas Patient Experience survey gives you the opportunity to feedback on the care and treatment you have received. We also encourage your friends, family and carers to also provide feedback. Hearing your views gives us a better understanding of the needs of our patients, families and carers which helps us to make sure that we are providing a good standard of care.

The short survey only takes a few minutes to complete and you can provide a written comment explaining what you think is working well and what is not. The Patient Experience team will collect the results of the surveys and these are shared with the relevant departments and management teams. This helps us to shape our services to continually improve the quality of the care and treatment we provide.

I contacted my doctor about having my coil removed and replaced, I was told I needed to contact woolwich market street, which I need they informed me as I don’t have a greenwich GP they couldn’t book me an appointment? And that I needed to go somewhere in Bexley. Where can I go and book an appointment?

Dear Natalie

Market St is an open access service for sexual health and contraception needs. Our community gynaecology services cover both Greenwich and Bexley boroughs and require a GP referral.

If you have any queries or concerns about access please call 020 8301 8920 and ask to speak with a Manager.

Kind regards

Hi, I never received a reply to the below... I’d like to know if you offer any cervical screening? I do not feel comfortable with my GP doing it.
Thank you

Dear Betty

We provide a cervical screening service at our Market Street clinic. Please ring 020 8301 8920 option 1 to talk to a nurse and book an appointment.

We offer the screening during normal clinics on Monday to Friday, and have a women-only space available on Thursday mornings between 08:00 and 11:00. During covid we are also temporarily offering cervical screening appointments on Saturdays between 10:00 and 12:30.

kind regards

I need to remove implant from my arm. I live in welling. Do I need to book appointment. Thank you

Thanks for your message.

We can remove your implant at our Bexley SH service (Albion Surgery, Bexleyheath) on Wednesdays or Fridays, or at our Greenwich SH service (Market Street Clinic, Woolwich) from Monday to Friday.

You do need to book an appointment at either site as we are not running any walk-in services during the pandemic - please ring 020 8301 8902 option 1 to talk to a nurse and book the appointment.

Kind regards

Hi, do you offer any cervical screening? I do not feel comfortable with my GP doing it.
Thank you

I want to get my coil replaced
Can I come walk in , I am in sidcup
How can I contact the clinic

Thank you for your enquiry.

Our Bexley clinic at the Albion Surgery in Bexleyheath offers coil removal, but not fitting.

We can replace your coil at any walk-in clinic at Market Street, Woolwich (SE18 6QR), or we have bookable appointments specifically for coils.

Our number is 020 8301 8920 and all our walk-in and bookable appointments are listed on the Oxleas website:

Is woolwich, market place still the only clinic that does implant removals and refit? Even if I live in Bexley?

Hello I was thinking about coming on a Friday for a check up and was wondering the best time to come in for so that I am definitely seen by a nurse.

Thank you for your question Junior - it is a 'walk in and wait' clinic at the Albion, which is open from 10:00 until 15:00. There is only one nurse on a Friday, so I would advise getting there at 10:00 to ensure you get a number. This will allocate you a slot with the nurse during the opening times, and you may have to wait to be seen - but it does mean you will see a nurse.

Are walk in services only the times listed on this site? I'm having a hard time getting the time off work and I'm over 25.

Many thanks,

Dear Alexei

The Bexley Sexual Health website lists all the local walk in services in Bexley.

You can also order a free home testing kit for the following sexually transmitted infections: HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B & C.

Please visit the GSH! website: for opening times for the walk-in service at Market Street, Woolwich.

Positive feedback for Gynaecological Doctor Jane Dickson and her nurse who performed a mirena coil removal in Minor Ops at Lakeside Health Clinic. I was very pleased with the professional and caring treatment received for this procedure. Previously, I have experienced great discomfort during this procedure but Dr Dickson was very warm and pleasant and the procedure was completed quickly and within a comfortable setting. The nurse present is to be commended highly too for her helpful and professional attitude. I would certainly like this feedback to be passed on to Dr Dickson, her nurse and the helpful reception staff (Ms Barber) at the Lakeside Health Centre today. Thanks to all.

Dear Jacqueline

Thank you so much for this very kind compliment.

We find our Gynaecology work really rewarding and it is so lovely to know that we are appreciated.

Kind regards

Dr Jane Dickson, Consultant
Charlotte Cushen, Staff Nurse
and the Lakeside reception staff.
