A bright future for Queen Mary’s Hospital
Oxleas NHS Foundation and Galliford Try joined distinguished guests at Sidcup’s Queen Mary's Hospital recently, to celebrate their successful partnership and securing the future of the hospital.
Over the past nine years, Oxleas and Galliford Try have worked closely together to modernise and improve the hospital's facilities, resulting in a higher standard of care for patients.
Joined at the event by Councillor Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, Leader of the Council and local MP Louie French, who play instrumental roles in supporting the partnership and the hospital, along with NHSE representatives, the chair of Oxleas, Andy Trotter, guests undertook tours of the key developments.
Queen Mary’s Hospital opened in 1917 as the UK’s central hospital for facial reconstructive surgery after the First World War. The pioneering plastic surgeon Sir Harold Gillies built the site’s international reputation. The hospital joined the new NHS in 1948 and went through several changes, before in 2013, Oxleas NHS was entrusted as owner of the hospital.
More services, including a kidney treatment centre and a specialist cancer centre, are now available in the heart of the local community. This development has enabled a diverse range of healthcare services to be delivered closer to patient’s homes and increased the support for people with long term physical and mental health conditions and learning disabilities.

Filming and photography requests
We receive documentary, location and broadcast filming requests on a regular basis – we consider all proposals on an individual basis and will try to accommodate proposals where possible, if appropriate.
No photography or filming is permitted without prior arrangement and agreement. Our patients always come first and we have a duty to protect their safety and confidentiality. Anyone found filming or taking photographs on the trust premises without the permission of the trust’s communications team will be asked to leave by the security department and may face prosecution.
Unless agreed otherwise, film crews and photographers must be accompanied by a member of the Communications Team at all times.
