‘It will take a society to beat dementia’

Our Understanding Dementia Health event saw 100 people join us both online and in person to learn more about Dementia and support available from various clinical and community experts.

The event at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup was hosted by Liz Moss, Public Governor representing our Bromley members.

Our community colleagues, Dominika Plaschg, Dementia Advisor from Bromley Dementia Services, South East London Mind, and Andrew Sayers, Services Manager from Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Support and Partnership Bexley, provided valuable information about the types of dementia, how it might impact a person, and the advice and support available for people with dementia and their carers.

Their key message was ‘It will take a society to beat dementia’.

Our expert panel then answered a range of questions submitted by attendees, covering topics such as the causes and types of dementia, signs, symptoms and progression, dementia and mortality, risk factors and prevention, treatment and medication, daily challenges and behavioural symptoms, and care, support and community services.

Thank you to our amazing panel (listed below) who answered the questions with great thought, kindness, care and compassion.

Our expert panel were:

  • Drs Monica Crugel, Israel Adebekun and Adrian Treloar, Consultants in Old Age Psychiatry
  • Sam Roberts, Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist
  • Comfort Adeyeye, Practice Development Nurse
  • Hind Madlul, Occupational Therapist, and our community colleagues
  • Dominika Plaschg, Dementia Advisor, Bromley Dementia Services, South East London Mind
  • Andrew Sayers, Services Manager, Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Support and Partnership Bexley
