Learning shared during Singapore delegate visit

Singapore delegation visit to ALD services in June 2026

This summer, we welcomed a multi-disciplinary delegation from Singapore for a three-day learning and exchange visit, hosted by our Adult Learning Disability (ALD) colleagues.

The visit showcased services in Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich and our integrated approach to supporting people with learning disabilities. It provided opportunities for the visitors to meet clinicians, managers, social care colleagues, support staff and experts by experience from across the directorate.

The Singapore delegation comprised Dr Chen Shiling (lead visitor), Dr Ian Leong, Euan Lim (Nurse), Lowsoo Wen (Health Social Worker), Yvonne Lee (Psychologist) and Joy Teo (Physiotherapist). They observed a wide range of services including integrated community learning disability teams, physical health services, psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work, LeDeR, intensive community support services, research activity and multidisciplinary clinical practice. They also attended the Learning Disability Awareness Week engagement stand at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Research net Service user art exhibition at the Woolwich Library.

The visit highlighted the strength of partnership working across health and social care, with colleagues from Oxleas and the Royal Borough of Greenwich sharing examples of innovative practice and integrated service delivery. The delegation also met senior clinicians and team leaders and participated in a formal feedback session.

In addition, our Speech and Language Therapy team linked with their counterparts in Singapore via Microsoft Teams, further strengthening international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Feedback from the visitors was overwhelmingly positive. Dr Chen Shiling reflected on the experience, thanking Oxleas colleagues for their warm hospitality, generosity and commitment to supporting people with learning disabilities.

Team Manager, Paul Sebuliba-Kawuma, said:

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to share learning, showcase the expertise of Oxleas staff and strengthen international links in learning disability services. It also demonstrated the directorate’s commitment to collaboration, innovation and improving outcomes for people with learning disabilities and their families.
