Let’s get real about recycling
This week is recycling week and at Oxleas, and within the NHS more generally, we are committed to increasing recycling and reducing waste.
Now in its 19th year, Recycle Week is a flagship annual event to galvanise the general public and organisations into recycling the right things, more often.
The NHS is the world’s first healthcare to pledge to bring down its emission to net zero by 2040 for emissions directly in our control; 2045 for the rest. We’re part of that ambitious drive and we understand that building a sustainable NHS also ensures a healthy future for the organisation and its people.
As part of our Oxleas Green Plan, we are pledging to increase recycling and reduce waste across the trust.
Did you know...
- 11 of our main sites are now powered by 100% LEDs with another five soon to follow
- to encourage active travel, cycle miles are reimbursed for staff at 20p per mile. Staff can also register on our Cycle to Work scheme
- we now have 14 electric vehicle charging points across our sites
- we recycled 132,000 tonnes of waste in 2021/22
Karen Janody, who is new in post as our sustainability manager, said: “Oxleas has already made some good progress but we still have a long way to go to meet our emission targets.
“As this is Recycle Week, let’s shine a spotlight on our waste. Tackling waste is going to need everyone working together.”
There are many ways to get involved with the campaign, including following our social media channels and using #RecycleWeek.
