The film aims to help people with learning disabilities understand what psychological therapy at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup involves.
A collaborative project between Bexley Community Learning Disability Team’s psychology department, Bexley Mencap, and South East London Colleges (Bexley site), the project was made possible thanks to the Oxleas Fund, which supports co-produced initiatives that improve experiences for patients and service users.
Our Chief Executive, Ify Okocha, was at the launch to introduce the film and help celebrate the remarkable efforts of everyone involved, along with Kara Lee, CEO of Bexley Mencap and members of the community and partner organisations.

The film’s script was co-written by psychologists and Bexley Mencap members, who also provided the voiceovers and lent their acting talent.
Birchgrove retirement apartments kindly offered their show home as a filming location.
Media students from South East London Colleges filmed and edited the project, getting great hands-on experience and a chance to work closely with NHS staff and people with learning disabilities.
Members of the psychology team also attended a screening at Bexley College, where students and tutors shared entertaining feedback about their involvement in the project.
During filming, residents at the Birchgrove apartments asked questions and encouraged the team.
This inspiring project is a fantastic example of partnership working and how being creative, collaborative and compassionate can make NHS services more accessible and inclusive.
Dr Rosamund Roach, Clinical Director, said:
