
Andrew is expected to take over from current Chair, Andy Trotter OBE, on 1 May 2024 once all Fit and Proper Persons Test checks are complete. Andy Trotter’s role at Oxleas comes to an end this year as he has completed his third, and final, term of office.
Andrew George is an immunologist who has worked in Southampton, USA and at Imperial College London. He held several roles at Imperial including Director of the Graduate School before moving to Brunel University London where he was Deputy Vice Chancellor, Education and International. He is co-chair of the UK Committee on Research Integrity, and Deputy Chair of Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Andrew has played a key role in leading research ethics in the NHS and currently is on the Board of the Health Research Authority. He was awarded an MBE for services to research participants and research ethics.
Sue Sauter, Lead Governor, welcomed the appointment saying:
“We have undertaken a thorough search for the next person to lead Oxleas and are pleased to be welcoming Andrew to join the trust. His experience and expertise will help Oxleas build on current successes and help us take forward our strategy to improve lives by providing the best care possible.”
Andrew, who is looking forward to joining Oxleas, said:

We receive documentary, location and broadcast filming requests on a regular basis – we consider all proposals on an individual basis and will try to accommodate proposals where possible, if appropriate.
No photography or filming is permitted without prior arrangement and agreement. Our patients always come first and we have a duty to protect their safety and confidentiality. Anyone found filming or taking photographs on the trust premises without the permission of the trust’s communications team will be asked to leave by the security department and may face prosecution.
Unless agreed otherwise, film crews and photographers must be accompanied by a member of the Communications Team at all times.
