New mental health ward opened at Oxleas House

Shrewsbury Ward opens at Oxleas House

We’re delighted to announce the opening of Shrewsbury Ward, our new 16-bed mixed-sex mental health ward based at Oxleas House in Greenwich.

Shrewsbury Ward will provide inpatient mental health care for adults from our local communities, supporting people who need additional care at a difficult time in their lives. It will also create extra capacity to help reduce pressure on emergency departments.

The ward has been developed as part of the Acute and Crisis Directorate’s contribution to the Living Within Our Means programme. By opening Shrewsbury Ward, we are reducing our reliance on private beds and ensuring patients can receive high-quality care closer to home. This not only delivers savings but also strengthens continuity between inpatient and community services.

The successful launch of the ward is thanks to the incredible efforts of colleagues across the trust who worked tirelessly to bring it to life. We are also excited to welcome a brand new multi-disciplinary team, led by Consultant Nurse, Emma Hopkins, who will play a vital role in creating a supportive and therapeutic environment for our patients.

Filming and photography requests

We receive documentary, location and broadcast filming requests on a regular basis – we consider all proposals on an individual basis and will try to accommodate proposals where possible, if appropriate.

No photography or filming is permitted without prior arrangement and agreement. Our patients always come first and we have a duty to protect their safety and confidentiality. Anyone found filming or taking photographs on the trust premises without the permission of the trust’s communications team will be asked to leave by the security department and may face prosecution.

Unless agreed otherwise, film crews and photographers must be accompanied by a member of the Communications Team at all times.
