New Senior Independent Director role for Suzanne

Suzanne Shale Senior Independent Director

We’re delighted to announce that Suzanne Shale, Vice Chair of our Board of Directors, has been appointed as Senior Independent Director.

Suzanne steps into the role following Jo Stimpson’s term of office ending on 30 April.

The appointment was agreed by the Non-Executive Director Nominations Committee and approved at the May Board of Directors' meeting.

The senior independent director is a non-executive director appointed by the Board of Directors in consultation with the Council of Governors. Suzanne will support our Chair, Andrew George and serve as an intermediary for the other directors when necessary. Her role means she is also available to members of the foundation trust and to governors if they have concerns.

Professor Suzanne Shale is an independent ethics consultant who works with a diverse range of organisations across health and social care, the third sector, and the criminal justice system.

She has a long-standing interest in patient and service user experience of their health conditions, health care, and health care harm, and has published research in all of these areas, as well as leading collaborative projects in service improvement.

She is a Member of the General Medical Council, chairs the London Policing Ethics Panel and is a member of the National Policing Ethics Committee. Associated with her work in policing ethics, she is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Security and Crime Science, University College London.

No photography or filming is permitted without prior arrangement and agreement. Our patients always come first and we have a duty to protect their safety and confidentiality. Anyone found filming or taking photographs on the trust premises without the permission of the trust’s communications team will be asked to leave by the security department and may face prosecution.

Unless agreed otherwise, film crews and photographers must be accompanied by a member of the Communications Team at all times.
