The Healthy.io App uses AI technology and aligns with the NHS 10 Year Health Plan’s priorities for hospital to community and analogue to digital.
Introduced in September by the Adult Community Physical Health Directorate, the app is being piloted in several teams including Oval and Eltham District Nurses, Greenwich and Bexley complex wound care and podiatry teams. Training in how to use the app has taken place and colleagues are now using it to support their assessment accuracy, care planning and collaborative working; ultimately reducing healing times for better patient outcomes.
Providing wound care represents a significant ongoing challenge, accounting for over half of community nursing time nationally, so it is hoped that the pilot will be a success and rolled out to other teams in due course.
Vikki Rawlins, Clinical Lead for Complex Wound Care in Bexley, said:
The Healthy.io app shows us how technology can transform care by turning a simple smartphone into a powerful clinical tool, bringing wound monitoring closer to patients, empowering carers and supporting clinicians with consistent, evidence-based insights.
Like all innovations, it works best when it complements, rather than replaces, compassionate human care. I am currently treating a 90-year-old lady who said to me ‘oh, I can’t wait to see my photos’ and is excited to be shown her photos each week so she can see how her wound is healing.
