Queen Mary’s honours James in new conference room
The Rt. Hon. James Brokenshire MP, was a committed supporter of Queen Mary's Hospital and in his role as MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup, campaigned tirelessly to retain and improve services at the hospital for local people.
Sadly, James died in October 2021 following a diagnosis of lung cancer.
In memory of James and in recognition of his hard work and dedication to keeping the hospital open and working for the community, a new meeting space at Queen Mary's Hospital has been officially opened in his name.
The James Conference Room was officially open by Cathy Brokenshire, wife of James, alongside current MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup, Louie French MP.
Andy Trotter, Chair of Oxleas and Ify Okocha, Chief Executive, also joined the official event with a number of colleagues and estates team, who organised the event.
Cathy Brokenshire said: "James would be so touched by this, he loved Queen Mary's Hospital, it meant such a lot to him. It really is a fitting tribute and he would be really proud"
Louie French MP said: "It's a huge honour to be here today with Cathy and to have the plaque on the wall in memory of James. Even after James's death, when I visit Queen Mary's Hospital, I always think of him and everything he did for the hospital."
Andy Trotter Said: "James Brokenshire was an exceptional man, it's right that we should honour him in this way. James readily gave his time to support the hospital whenever he could and would often visit us and attend events to show his support. We've always been very grateful to him for that. Even as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, he always made time for Queen Mary's Hospital, he was truly passionate about it and his constituents."

Filming and photography requests
We receive documentary, location and broadcast filming requests on a regular basis – we consider all proposals on an individual basis and will try to accommodate proposals where possible, if appropriate.
No photography or filming is permitted without prior arrangement and agreement. Our patients always come first and we have a duty to protect their safety and confidentiality. Anyone found filming or taking photographs on the trust premises without the permission of the trust’s communications team will be asked to leave by the security department and may face prosecution.
Unless agreed otherwise, film crews and photographers must be accompanied by a member of the Communications Team at all times.
