Colleagues and guests gathered for the official opening of the centre, which includes a clinic room, patient home and debrief room, with live streaming and recording capabilities.
And it’s all been achieved with a sustainable approach. Situated in D Block at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup, items from across the trust have been re-purposed to furnish the centre, including the clinical room which used to be a ward.
Our new simulation centre has been designed with a multidisciplinary approach and around 100 visitors attended the official opening to find out more about the training opportunities on offer.
Jake Chambers, Practice Development Nurse, said:
It has been a pleasure to work with our medics, AHPs and nurses across the organisation to bring the project together. Special thanks go to Cathy Carter, our Medical Simulation Lead and Lee Bolton, operational manager at the Queen Mary’s Hospital site, who have championed our clinical workforce and the project from the start.
Chief Medical Officer, Abi Fadipe, said:
Simulation is a fantastic method of enhancing the learning experience of our staff to help improve patient care. It is a supportive space that is as close to a clinical situation as possible for staff to learn from.
Chief Nursing Officer, Jane Wells, added:
Simulation provides a safe environment where clinicians can practice clinical skills, make clinical decisions and learn together, building competence, confidence and compassionate care. We are thrilled to have a dedicated space mirroring real environments and situations to take forward our scenarios.
