SUN shines for new support group in Greenwich

People with complex emotional needs or personality disorder now have a new service they can access for support.

Greenwich Service User Network (SUN) has launched twice-weekly groups at the Clockhouse Community Centre in Woolwich.

Groups are facilitated and adhere to a peer support model, in which members give and receive support in response to the issues they bring to group on the day.

SUN groups already run in Bexley and Bromley boroughs and the launch of Greenwich SUN means we’re now able to provide a comprehensive service trustwide.

SUN has proven itself to be effective in helping people develop their coping capacity, build structure and importantly, connect with others.

Evidentially, engagement with SUN groups are shown to significantly reduce unplanned and crisis contacts with existing community and crisis mental health services.

Access to SUN is via a self-referral pathway, which is swift and does not entail any triage or screening.

To be eligible to join, potential members must be open to one of our mental health and wellbeing hubs, or our community mental health services at the point of referral.

No formal diagnosis is required but the service model was developed primarily to support people with complex emotional needs, who may:

  • Have difficulties managing their emotions
  • Find it difficult to maintain relationships
  • Feel misunderstood by family and friends
  • Feel isolated or lonely
  • Have struggled with self-harm or suicide

Once someone has joined SUN, membership and access to groups continue, even after discharge from our more traditional services.

To self-refer, please call 0203 889 5210 or email the relevant borough SUN service:

Filming and photography requests

We receive documentary, location and broadcast filming requests on a regular basis – we consider all proposals on an individual basis and will try to accommodate proposals where possible, if appropriate.

No photography or filming is permitted without prior arrangement and agreement. Our patients always come first and we have a duty to protect their safety and confidentiality. Anyone found filming or taking photographs on the trust premises without the permission of the trust’s communications team will be asked to leave by the security department and may face prosecution.

Unless agreed otherwise, film crews and photographers must be accompanied by a member of the Communications Team at all times.
