Sickle Cell Service (Adult) - Bexley and Greenwich

  • Our community adult sickle cell team covers the borough of Bexley and Greenwich.

    It is a nurse-led service providing comprehensive care and support for patients 18 years old and over with sickle cell disorder. 

    Our services include: 

    • Providing advice, information and care to adults with a sickle cell condition
    • Extending support to families, carers, and professionals involved in the care of individuals with Sickle Cell Condition
    • Liaising with the wider multi disciplinary team and paediatric services to ensure a seamless transition of sickle cell patients into adult services
    • Referring to services and support patients’ carers and families
    • Assisting adults seeking to know their sickle cell status/type
    • Organising information and knowledge sessions for patients, families and carers on sickle cell disorders to help them to self-manage their condition.

Our team

Our adult sickle cell service is run by clinical nurse specialists and they work alongside our multidisciplinary team which includes dietitians, physiotherapists, pharmacists, psychologists and welfare advisors.

The team also collaborates with Guy's and St Thomas' sickle cell service, local hospitals based haemoglobinopathy teams and GPs .

Our aims

We aim to provide a service that promotes quality of life and optimal health of all adults living with sickle cell disease. 

How to access this service

To access our service you need to:

  • Confirm a diagnosis of sickle cell disorder
  • Be registered with a GP within the boroughs Bexley and Greenwich
  • Be over 18 years old

Referrals can be made by GPs and any other health care professional by completing the referral form and sending to:
