The Greenwich Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service helps those experiencing a mental health crisis.
We offer callers a consultation to assess what AMHP intervention is required. The consultation also aims to explore and assess any risks to the caller.
The consultation is with a duty AMHP. They will use the information available within the caller’s electronic records, as well as information from other relevant sources, to assist with the discussion.
The Duty AMHP will complete a referral form to ensure all information discussed during the consultation is recorded and stored within the service user’s electronic care records.
Following the initial consultation, the caller may be offered an assessment under the Mental Health Act. If not, a community plan or suitable alternative will be made.
The consultation focuses on finding the least restrictive intervention. We operate within the legal framework of the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983 (which was amended in 2007) and the principles and guidance enshrined within the MHA Code of Practice.
You can speak to a member of our Central AMHP Team by calling 0208 836 8610 and 0208 836 8609.
