The Greenwich Music Therapy Service is based on the understanding that all human beings can respond to music, whether or not they show any musical ability themselves.
Children and young people often experience emotional challenges at different stages of their lives. Illness, communication difficulties or disability can all have an impact. Traumatic experiences, change and loss can also affect an individual’s well-being.
Music therapy involves the use of sound, rhythm and improvised music to form a musical relationship between the service user and therapist.
Within this relationship, the child or young adult can communicate, gain confidence and express a sense of self. We can also explore the individual’s strengths and needs within a safe and creative environment.
Music therapy sessions offer a child or young person a different experience of shared play, interaction, learning and understanding, using verbal and non-verbal modes of communication.
