Children’s Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service - Bexley

  • The Bexley Children & Young People’s Speech and Language Therapy Service supports and cares for children under the age of 19 who have difficulties communicating or eating, drinking and swallowing.

    We assess and provide advice and interventions for children and young people with specific speech, language and communication problems. We aim to enable them to communicate to the best of their ability. 

    We help children and young people who have difficulties with:

    • Understanding language
    • Spoken language
    • Learning difficulties/disabilities
    • Hearing impairment
    • Autism
    • Speech sounds
    • Social communication
    • Stammering
    • A voice problem
    • Eating, drinking and swallowing
    • Selective mutism

    As an allied health professional service, we work closely with parents, carers and other professionals, including teachers and nurses.

How to access this service

To access this service, you must be:

  • Registered with a preschool or about to register with a Bexley GP
  • School-aged and attending a Bexley school
  • Younger than 19 years of age and in full-time education in Bexley

Referrals

You can be referred to this service by:

  • Staff in the health, education or voluntary sectors
  • Parents
  • Young people can self-refer jointly with children’s early-years settings, a health visitor or their school
  • Referrals from GPs will need additional information from healthcare or education professionals
