The Greenwich Mental Health in Schools Team (GMHST) provides early interventions for children and young people with mild and moderate mental health symptoms. We also work with vulnerable young people who may be at risk of developing emotional and mental health difficulties in the future.
The GMHST is available to all children and young people under the age of 18 years old, who attend one of the allocated Greenwich schools.
We work towards early intervention, prevention and to increase emotional resilience of the children and young people we work with. We offer general wellbeing workshops, short-medium term 1:1 therapeutic sessions and targeted groups.
Despite being a schools team, we are an all year round service, enabling interventions to continue even during the school holidays.
To access this service, you must:
If your school is not an allocated GMHST school, we cannot currently offer you an intervention. However, we are working hard to expand the service to as many Greenwich schools as possible.
We would advise you to speak with your school SENCO, inclusion officer, school nurse, Head of Year or safeguarding lead to find out what support your school provides for students who wish to speak to someone about their emotional well-being. You can also discuss your worries with your GP who will be able to signpost you to the right service.
If you, your child, your patient or your pupil attends one of the allocated Greenwich MHST schools almost anyone can make a referral. This includes:
School staff can link in with their MHST Lead Practitioner to discuss and make referrals.
Parents and carers should liaise with the SENCO or pastoral team in the school. They will support you in making a referral.
Alternatively, send an email to oxl-tr.gmhst@nhs.net containing your name, the name of the young person you are referring, the school you attend and what your concerns are.
