School Nursing Service - Greenwich

  • The School Nursing Service provides advice and information concerning their health and well-being, including physical, mental and sexual health, to children and young people in Greenwich. We deliver this service with youth hubs and support schools across the borough.

    The service covers various topics. These include:

    • General health issues, including sleep, toileting and behaviour
    • Feeling sad or anxious
    • Relationships
    • Diet and exercise
    • Weight issues
    • Bullying
    • Growing up
    • Sexual health issues
    • Stopping smoking

    The service is delivered as part of Young Greenwich. Young Greenwich offers a range of school and community-based youth and health services to support the health and well-being of children and families across Greenwich.

    Young Greenwich can also be accessed at Young Greenwich Youth Services. Registering for an account will give you access to a variety of activities and health and well-being services in the local area.

Our team

The School Nurses team is made up of:

  • School screeners
  • Health advisors
  • Community staff nurses
  • Specialist community public health nurses
  • Administrators

The nurses are based within hubs and aligned with schools in Greenwich.

Our nurses and health advisors are experienced, approachable and know the schools and area well. They support everyone in strict confidence and consider safeguarding at all times.

School screeners deliver the National Child Measurement programme for Reception and Year 6 children. Vision screening for Reception children and growth measurements for Year 8 will commence in 2023.

Our Health Advisors support Reception-aged children’s transition into school and support parents at drop-ins and workshops held across the four youth hubs each term.

Secondary schools have a named Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) that offers a regular, confidential service for young people. Primary schools have access to the hub nursing team.

How to access this service

To access this service, you must:

  • Attend a school in Greenwich
  • Live in Greenwich if home educated or not attending a school provision
  • Be aged between 4 and 19 years - or up to 25 with SEND

Referrals

Referrals to the service should be directed via the Young Greenwich website.

We do not accept referrals for:

  • Children under the age of four
  • Nursery children
