Game, set and match at learning disability tennis event
It was game, set and match when our Learning Disability team, together with Bexley Mencap and the Lawn Tennis Association, hosted the annual Learning Disability Matchplay Tennis event at Bexleyheath Sports Club.
Over 50 players of all abilities and mobilities got the chance to play tennis in different formats – whether it was hitting the ball into hula hoops on the court, practising different skills, individual shots and serves, or full-scale rallies across the net – some of which were very competitive in nature.
It was a wonderful opportunity for people with learning disabilities and their families and carers to come together to play tennis which benefits both their mental health and physical while having a fun day out
The event continues to grow with the aim of hosting a small tournament for people with learning disabilities in the near future.

It was great to see so many players from day centres across the borough and beyond enjoying themselves, meeting friends and making new ones. New players were quick to pick up the basic skills and learn new ones while helping and encouraging each other.

The enthusiasm and energy of all the players was amazing.
One of those players Mark, from Bexley Mencap said: “I always enjoy playing tennis. Today I met some friends I hadn't seen in ages and had never played tennis with them before – so that was fantastic!”

Filming and photography requests
We receive documentary, location and broadcast filming requests on a regular basis – we consider all proposals on an individual basis and will try to accommodate proposals where possible, if appropriate.
No photography or filming is permitted without prior arrangement and agreement. Our patients always come first and we have a duty to protect their safety and confidentiality. Anyone found filming or taking photographs on the trust premises without the permission of the trust’s communications team will be asked to leave by the security department and may face prosecution.
Unless agreed otherwise, film crews and photographers must be accompanied by a member of the Communications Team at all times.
